Chris van Wyk

Chris van Wyk has extensive experience in the South African education sector having worked in schools and universities as a teacher, principal and lecturer as well as having spent over 10 years managing the Education Management Information Systems (EMIS) for the Provincial Government of the Western Cape. He has a PhD in Education Policy from Stellenbosch University with a focus on the use of quantitative methods in analysing education datasets.
As an expert in Education Management Information Systems (EMIS), Chris was responsible for the development of the EMIS strategy for the National Department of Education in South Africa. He was involved in the Grade 3 Improvement Study for Literacy and Numeracy for the Western Cape Education department. He has analysed the data quality of education statistics in Kenya, Botswana and Malawi using Data Quality Assessment Framework of UNESCO. He was involved in a project for NSFAS to undertake a detailed cohort analysis of students who received their first loan/ bursary through NSFAS in the academic years 2000-2004. He also has a post-graduate diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation and an Honours degree in computer science.
