An Overview of the 8th Annual QER Conference (21-22 August 2024)

From 21-22 August 2024, Resep hosted its 8th annual Quantitative Education Research (QER) conference at STIAS, Stellenbosch. Among the more than 100 attendees were academics, students, government officials, NGOs representatives and other stakeholders. Speakers, chairs and participants collectively provided an overview of key trends in South African education and profiled new research. In this synopsis of the 2-day programme, some key insights across all presentations are considered under eight emerging conference themes.

Breaking into spring with the 2022 Quantitative Education Research Conference: An overview

RESEP was again privileged to host its annual QER conference at STIAS from 31 August to 1 September 2022. There is much value in bringing together academics, government, NGOs and funders involved in education improvement in South Africa. Two days of new research, engaging panels and critical questioning reminded us of how much work there is to be done, while also revealing the advancement in collaboration that has been made across research and government work.

Quantitative Education Research Conference again a huge success

On 12 and 13 September, RESEP held its fifth Quantitative Education Research Conference at the Stias Conference Centre in Stellenbosch. As in past years, it was attended by about 100 researchers, senior policymakers and stakeholders from all over South Africa. Funding was provided by the Zenex Foundation, the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation and RESEP itself. The conference was preceded by a smaller workshop on 11 September for emerging researchers in education.

Highlights from RESEP’s Early Learning Workshop (4 to 5 July 2019)

RESEP hosted a two-day workshop at STIAS from 4 to 5 July 2019, with participation from key academics and policymakers engaged in early learning research or implementation of improvement programmes. The topics covered include early childhood development and related programmes to improve the quality of grade R and ECD service delivery, assessment of children before they reach school-going age, reading trajectories in early grades and programmes to improve reading outcomes in school.

RISE-RESEP Workshop

RESEP hosted researchers from Research on Improving Systems of Education (RISE) for the Africa RISE–RESEP Conference on Education Research at Stellenbosch University. Over the two day conference, members from the RISE Ethiopia and Tanzania Country Research Teams (CRT) joined researchers from RESEP, as well as other key researchers working on quantitative research on education in Africa.

Quantitative Applications in Education Research Conference
