The South African labour market in macro-economic context

This small workshop largely involved RESEP researchers and people from the policymaking world. It was held at STIAS in July and funded from RESEP’s own resources. The Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni, attended and gave an informal talk on the macro-economic challenges we are facing.

Early learning workshop

This workshop was strongly focused on measuring early learning. It was attended by a small group of experts and held a STIAS in July. Funding came from the Early Learning Programme.

Quantitative Education Research (QER) Conference

This fifth edition of this annual conference was held in September at STIAS. As in the past, it again drew a strong contingent of researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders. Zenex and the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation contributed part-funding, with additional funding from own resources.

Workshop for emerging education researchers

This small one-day workshop preceded the Quantitative Education Research (QER) Conference and was funded from RESEP’s own resources.

Introductory training course in quantitative data analysis for researchers in education

This training course for 27 participants was targeted especially at emerging education researchers in government, universities and NGOs. It was funded within the Early Learning Programme by the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Endowment.

Affordable housing workshop

Marisa von Fintel and Ronelle Burger presented a workshop for policymakers and researchers to discuss constraints to improved choice, access and quality in affordable housing.

Applied spatial economics and econometrics workshop

In January a group of South African researchers gathered in Stellenbosch for a day-long workshop organised by Dieter von Fintel and Eldridge Moses, showcasing new work in development economics using spatial data and spatial econometric techniques.
