Carlos da Maia awarded PhD

The ReSEP group would like to congratulate Dr. Carlos da Maia who was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) (Economics) in December 2012.  Carlos completed his Bachelor of Commerce with Honours and Master of Commerce degrees at Stellenbosch University in 2007 and 2008, respectively, before continuing with his PhD studies in Economics in 2009 under the supervision of Professor Servaas van der Berg.

Carlos joined ReSEP in 2009 and established himself as a researcher through his involvement in various workshops and research projects, including the  preparation of two reports on Child Poverty Analysis for the Namibian National Planning Commission and Central Bureau of Statistics. His PhD dissertation, “Understanding Poverty and Inequality in Mozambique: The Role of Education and Labour Market Status focusses on issues of poverty and inequality in Mozambique with specific emphasis on the linkages between education, the labour market, and well-being.
