Dr Carlos da Maia

Carlos da Maia completed his Licentiate (undergraduate) degree in economics at Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (Maputo – Mozambique) in 2006. In the following two years he completed a Honours and a Master’s degree in Economics, respectively, at Stellenbosch University (SU).
Carlos completed his Ph.D. in Economics in 2012, also at SU. His thesis deals with issues on the analysis of poverty and inequality in Mozambique, issues with its education system as well as the links between skills and labour market outcomes.
His main research interests include, among other things, survey data analysis, analysis of poverty and inequality, the links between skills and labour market outcomes, analysis of the performance of education systems, programme monitoring and impact evaluation, as well as Inflation Targeting in a developing country context.
